Vitra for kids /part 4 - Eames Elephant

It's time to continue our great Vitra for kids serie.
After Hang-it-all and Utensilo and Panton-chair I'm happy to present Eames Elephant
In 1945  Charles and Ray Eames designed the legendary Plywood Elephant but it was to expensive to be produce and at that time only 2 prototypes were made. In 2007 Vitra launched a limited edition of the Plywood Elephant on the occasion of the 100th birthday of Charles. The 2000 copies were sold out immediately! Of course the Playwood Elephant went to the collectors and not the children rooms , not really like designers wanted. In the light of this, Vitra decided to develop a version that would be affordable as a child's toy: the Eames Elephant made of plastic. One of the Eames principal mottos was : " The most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least." It is available in five colors: red, ice-grey,white, dark lime and light pink.

Vitra Wooden Doll - Alexander Girard

Alexander Girard created these Wooden Dolls for his own home in Santa Fe. Half decorative element, half toy. Each with their own personality and story. I think they look great in any kind of interior - and they are definitely more for collectors or decoration in children room ( but not only!)  than for kids to play with. Vitra also did XXL version of the Woden Dolls for their Vitra house in Germany.

Vitra for kids / part 3 - Panton Chair Junior

New Year and a new part of our design classic series - Vitra for Kids. Today the Panton Chair Junior. This futuristic rocking chair made with a single mould is 50 years old! Designed by Verner Panton, unconventional Danish architect. In 1960 Panton was the designer of the very first single-form injection-moulded plastic chair. The Stacking chair or S chair, became his most famous and mass-produced design. The chair came on the market in 1967 as the first product made independently by Vitra.  The bright, cheerful colors and smooth curves chair is available in 7 colors.  " The Panton Chair has always been a favorite among children - both as something to sit on and something to play with" .

Vitra for kids / part 2 - Uten.Silo

It's time for the second part of our Vitra series which I stared here : vitra-for-kids-part-1-hang-it-all Today Uten.Silo wall-mounted organizer. It was designed by Dorothee  Becker, wife of Ingo Maurer ( his Zettel'z lamp is one of my all time favorite! ) Vitra Design Museum produces both the original 1969 version of Uten.Silo (Uten.Silo I) and a smaller one dating from 1970 (Uten.Silo II). I can see this classic piece going  throughout children room from babyhood to the teenage years (holding all the different things kids need in all ages) . Actually it could really work anywhere in the house. Available in white, red and black, it comes in two sizes and is definitelly a design classic.

Vitra for kids / part 1 - Hang it all

Vitra is a furniture company based in Switzerland and well know for its creative genius of leading international designers. Their goal is to create products with high functionality and aesthetic life expectancy. Charles & Ray Eames have influenced Vitra's approach in many ways.  I can say that this company is producing classical modern pieces of furnitures that have been used for decades and never get out of fashion. The children are also customers out there! Many designers created furniture and objects specially for kids. Today I want to show you a " Hang it all " hanger designed by Charles & Ray Eames.  For me the beauty of all this objects is the appeal to both adults and children. This makes them perfect part of any room!
More to come!
