Minimal Rafa Bedroom
It’s been three weeks since our return from holidays already, but we seem to run still a bit slower. I don’t rush the busy working days to come back into my life. Do you cherish your hours of sleep? I noticed since the trip, how proper amount of sleep, affects my mood and how I feel during the day.
Maybe that is why our first Rafa-kids photo shoot needed to be about comfort and simplicity in a bedroom. I love this large A teen bed in white. Can you imagine the same bed used for your child's early years, and then just restyled for a teenager?
The A120 bed looks so light and minimal because the legs are designed a bit away from the front line, and that creates this contemporary effect. I wanted to keep everything very minimal so you can see how beautiful this bed is. Together with the Rafa-kids S shelf and B bench, it is such a complete look. I hope you like this calm and elegant atmosphere, as much as we do.

Monday inspiration - Clothes rack for children's rooms
What do you think about using clothes in children's room as decoration ? I can imagine, it is a shame to hide in the closet, this one favourite, beautiful dress of your little girl, that she waited and wanted for so long. Or maybe the dress she was wering on her first birthday ? We would like to keep this memory forever, right ? For an older child, having clothes on a rack feels a bit like being in a store, where you can easily reach it, see whats there and play with it.
I hope that when we buy less, but very consciously, it would be nice to appreciate the well made, and designed pieces and give them a special place in a child's room. On the other hand, we can hide the rest of garments in a closet. You can create such a beautiful clothes rack, from wooden sticks, for more natural look or use a standart metal adult Clothes rack. There is a plenty of options if you like the idea. Rafa-kids has also designed a beautiful L shelf with a metal rack to hang the favourite garments of your child.
Wishing you a wonderful new week!
Thank you for inspiration

Rugs for children's room - Lorena Canals
I’m not a fan of rugs, but when it comes to a children’s rooms - they are simply a ‘must have’. Children love to play on the floor and as parents, we would like to keep their feet and knees soft and cosy, right ? If I could choose, I will always go for good quality, plain colour rug, and that’s all, but as we know, the plain rugs, are the ones which needs the most care to keep them fresh and clean. It is definitely more practical to get a rug for children’s room with a bit of a pattern on it.
I discovered very recently the Lorena Canals rugs, and really like them. Not only the simple design, but also the great idea, that you can just drop them into your washing machine, how great is that ? Lorena Canals , create this nice boho vibe around their rugs, with nice baskets and blankets with pom-pons - so fun and playful for kids rooms. I think they can be spread around the house too, for the cosy and relaxed vibe.

Slow House
During our visit in Tokyo, we had a chance to discover few of ACTUS stores.
If you are not familiar with Ouur, it is lifestyle publisher and agency creating print and digital media for young creative audience. Under theIR roof you can find Kinfolk. A slow lifestyle magazine which explores ways for readers to simplify their lives, cultivate community and spend more time with their friends and family. It is all about homemade, handmade, the craft-made and the self-made. The idea of creating a product that satisfies a particular use or user rather than the global population, is very close to Rafa-kids concept too.
ACTUS also hosted in 2016 collaboration with one of my favourite designers Cecilie Manz, called Moku. The series includes chair, bench, table for everyday life. It’s all about simplicity, pure materials and beauty.
“ … That’s one response to society’s increasing speediness: making designs effective rather than efficient. We don’t want to waste time trying to do things, find things and make things happen when they’re completely unnecessary. At the same time, we don’t want to live like machines: We want to feel “at home.” We want to prfioritize the unmeasurable stuff: things like atmosphere, tactility, beauty and comfort. These qualities slow you down; they really embed your body in a place…”

Rafa-kids new shelves collection - PART 2 - shelf L
Today we would like to show you for the first time our
We designed this shelf with aim that it would grow with the needs of your child. At the beginning it could be used in a baby nursery above a commode. You can storage the necessary accessories on it and display special baby clothes. The shelf is deeper than our other shelves XL, M and S, so that you could even put little shoes on it for example.
In a toddler’s room, L shelf would be a great help to display little toys and favourite wardrobe garments. The L shelf is a functional and beautiful addition to our Rafa-kids collection.
Like the other shelves, this one is also made from first class Finnish Birch plywood with metal elements. Powder coated steel rod is designed for hangers or clips. To make it even more playful we will introduce a choice of colours to these metal element to be combined with the L shelf in natural birch or full white finish.
We hope you like it as much we do!

black & white children’s rooms
Our Monday’s inspiration for children room’s is back!
I don’t know if you like it or not, but I’m afraid that the Black&White kids’ deco trend is still doing very well. There is plenty of nice accessories to make a playful and original room for a child only by using this two colours. The H&M new kids’ deco collection also seems holding on to this . Black& White interior design is most of the time minimalistic and elegant, but sometimes we may feel is a bit to monotonus. I was giving few ideas how to decorate in this aesthetic here: black-kids-rooms
Personally I can’t really imagine only black and white room, not only for my children but also for me personally. I will mainly miss natural textures in such a space. I found for you few examples, of a beautiful mix of wooden accessories for children with a simple graphics and white furniture. It makes a serene atmosphere I could definitely live in.
Since a long time, I prefer sleeping in white and happily I pass this to my boys. My older son likes to sleep in this grey duvet and I made a white one for my younger one. ( since I couldn’t find a small size in pure white! ) I was afraid they would ask for colours and patterns, but it was not even a discussion about it, they really like it and I’m so glad they do! And what a wonderful, simple bunk beds set ups on these two pictures below, quiet and calm. Perfect.

natural materials in children’s rooms
Can you imagine child's room without strong colours and accents ?
What about keeping everything very tonal and natural ...
Seems like a easy key into succes: keep it simple, expose rich textures and natural materials.
Don’t be afraid of experimenting with mix of old and new.
Few days ago, my younger son, who is 4.5 asked me for white bedding and pillows! I couldn’t believe my ears. He said he would like to have all white and fresh. Believe me , he is not watching any trendy magazines or Instagram. This makes me believe that neutral room can be a real hit for a child too.
