Finally not a full 3D movie made using computer-generated animation coming from Pixar or Dreamworks…but a magic, two-dimensional unique story : “ Song of the Sea “.

Hand-drawn movies for children seems like a dying art form, so I was glad to take my boys to see this new Irish film.  “ Song of the Sea “ is directed by Tomm Moore and produced by the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon. It’s easy to forget how water-coloured backgrounds in 2d animations, give the  depth and perspective into the images you look at. The film will take you into an old-school legend story telling. I will not tell you more about what the story is exacly about…I will just say : It's an unique movie, with a beautiful personalities and touching story.
Don’t miss it.

Film Festival Rotterdam 2012

' Kijken door kinderogen is opnieuw leren zien'
'Looking through children's eyes is like learning to see again'
is one of the themes from International Film Festival Rotterdam this year. For me one of the best city events ever. It is starting next week but today I have already booked my tickets. I wish I could move to the cinema for a few days, but of course my husband will be not so happy about that so I will see just few of the films. Meeting some of the art directors is also always really fantastic event during the Festival and the atmosphere is pretty amazing. Rotterdam festival is known not only for the films but for the great and engaging audience.  Looking for it so much!
I wish you a good weekend.

and yes, I finally found my perfect 2012-daily planner calendar ;-)
beautiful work of Julia Kostreva - I'm her new admirer.

Movie – Alamar

For the ones living in Rotterdam, or close by, this week starts an open-air cinema, in the Museumpark. Here link: pleinbioscooprotterdam
On 28.08 this Sunday, 21.30 an amazing Mexican film Alamar (To The Sea) will be screened. I have seen it already on the IFFR where it won an Audience Award for Best Film. An extraordinarily beautiful film, which you will never forget! I had chance to see the author Pedro González-Rubio and listen his history about the film. It is an amazing story taking pleace at the sea. A young boy, Natan, goes on a journey with his father and grandfather. His father is a humble fisherman in Mexico, where he lives in the house on the water. They are not actors, they where filmed by a friend, who went with them too see how they spend their days surrounden by water… I don’t want to tell you the full story…just some photos. I wish my son could see it too…
don’t miss it.

Film - 'Le Ballon rouge'

My sons always like to play with balloons. So simple and magic toy.

It reminds me today of movie cold  'The Flight of the Red Balloon' by Hou Hsiao Hsien, filmed in Paris. The film was inspired by Albert Lamorisse's classic children's film, 'Le Ballon rouge' (France, 1956) .

“....The film, which has a music score but almost no dialogue, tells story of Pascal (Pascal Lamorisse), who, on his way to school one morning, discovers a large helium-filled red balloon. As Pascal plays with his new found toy, he realizes the balloon has a mind and will of its own, and it begins to follow him wherever he goes.....”
