Creative children’s spaces

Personal bedroom with handmade elements from book Creative children’s spaces

Few days ago I was so lucky to find in my post box this wonderful book ‘ Creative Children’s Spaces’ by Ashlyn Gibson. As you can imagine going through all the pages made me very exited!

Most of the houses the stylist and author of the book Ashlyn Gibson selected and visited with photographer Ben Robertson are not know in the online word.  This makes the content of this book very fresh and unique.  You can also be sure, that the houses are not changed by the stylist, who is trying to show us specific image or product. They take us like a little spy, to watch the real homes and their families.  Dynamic, personal and creative environments which are beautifully captured by photographer Ben Robertson . I had hard time to select pictures to show you.

Each page is just full of ideas and little details, which you would like to watch, and watch again.  The author Ashlyn discusses the key elements of successful and inspiring children’s spaces: colour, wall décor, storage, display, dens and hideaways, creative spaces plus homework zones, and cozy bedrooms. We are very touched to also see our Rafa-kids R toddler bed in one of the houses!

Hanging chair in kids rooms

the best hanging chairs in kids rooms
hanging chair in kids room

It’s Monday again - time for good dose of inspiration for kids’ deco.
Since a while I see hanging chairs here and there. It might be subconscious, since I wish to get one myself. I will be celebrating my birthday in few days and I secretly hope this wish to come true…
I really like the relaxed and casual look of the hanging chair in any home space. Perfect to hide for a quiet moment with a book or magazine. Such a personal territory, easy to create in a small or biger room. I think any child will love this playful and at the same time personal element in his/her room.

Would you be happy to have one?

you are my sunshine

I’m back!
It was a long break, wan’t it?  Did you miss my posts a bit?
Well I’m ready to get back to you with new inspirations, ideas and interesting content.

Let’s start our new week with a splash of joy, happiness and energy of yellow colour.
It’s not a big secret that Rafa-kids likes yellow a lot and tries to add it to a children’s rooms here and there. A bit of yellow will brighten your child’s room very quick. What about a little yellow pillow, bedding set or this wonderful “you are my sunshine” text on the wall ?  The days are longer and warmer now, and I  always feel like changing things around me and add a bit of colour into our monochromatic house. Would you dare to?
I wish you a wonderful new week ahead!

Great tips how to decorate with black&yellow , please have a look here.

We are so exited to work with stylist/photographer Paulina Arcklin and prepare this inspiring child’s room with Rafa-kids’ furniture. We thought it’s good to go out of our comfort zone and imagine a room of a child with accessories not particularly dedicated to children’s deco.

We are definitely inspired by blue colours and textures this season. Never have enough of denim/jeans and linen bedding in tones of grey and blue. We like industrial, raw touch in the room and XXL Lego boxes are a perfect pieces for storing all treasures. Did you know, that you can get a couple of car tyres in your local garage for free? at least we did. Paulina had an idea to use them to expose soft toys on the wall or on the floor, and they give such a character to this space. At the end the Rafa-kids R toddler bed with wheels as a part of this cool room.
We hope you like it as much as we do!

Special thanks to Paulina Arcklin for this inspiring day
and knuffelsalacarte store for bringing us plushies for the photo shoot.

New book in town for all the kid’s deco lovers!

Mini woonboek “ is coming out in Belgium, written in Dutch, but don’t worry - there is hardly any tekst in it!   Britt and Tom ( owners of interior blog : woonblog.be ) are looking for the perfect kid’s room. They visited more than thirty beautiful children's rooms in different styles and show them with details and all interior goodies that make a child's space so unique. I really like the graphic touch of the layout, fresh and bright selection of modern and very up to date kids' rooms.

In the book you will also find their favourite children's store addresses in Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels, Leuven, Bruges, Amsterdam and Paris. And that’s not all, because  the owners also run a store dedicated to kids deco called “ Wolf&Wolfje ” , where you can of course get the book…. and many other goodies.
and look carefully, there is also some  Rafa-kids' furniture on wheels rolling between the pages...

modern wallpaper for kids' room

decoration children'r room with wallpaper

Picking the perfect wallpaper for a child’s room can be a challenge,
but there are some fantastic choices out there .
If you ask me about my favourite wallpaper for my kids, it would be either simple geometric pattern or free outlined, irregular form, wall decoration. Geometric wallpaper gives sort of background and doesn’t dominate an interior.  Irregular  pattern wallpaper ( like the one with different sizes of letters on the picture) will do exactly the opposite. What I like most about it, is that it can be accully child/teener drawing or collage and it doesn’t look like ordinary wallpaper. I really like collection of wallpapers by  Onszelf , there is plenty of this sort of creative wallpapers to choose from.

I’m so glad that the time when wallpaper was used through the entire room has passed, and now we mostly do just part of the wall to make it more personal and cosy.

You can also often see, that people mix patterns of different wallpapers with each other. Please look at the wall behind the yellow wardrobe. I’m not sure if this is  ‘ready’ made wallpaper or someone made a collage, but the final effect is very impressive. All organic forms, like flowers, leaves or forrest elements are perfect to mix and much. Personally I would stay with more simple, one sort of wallpaper in one space. This way, I have a great basic to play and look for matching colours with furniture and accessories.
