NEW - K desk from Rafa-kids

Finally I can show you our new Rafa-kids K desk

I could not sit still for few weeks. There was a lot of testing going on, prototyping and I thought the process and trouble shooting will never end. My partner in business/life is a perfectionist and I'm a short tempered lady, so its not so easy sometimes. I always try to say to myself , when I can't speed up the process 'good thing's need time' . This is so true…

Now we can proudly present our K desk and we hope you will like this new piece of furniture as much as we do. The K desk is simply named after it's leg shape. When you look at old industrial drawing desks, many of them have the legs like that. We also like the old school desks with lid and hidden space inside so much. I think we managed to make a modern and new version of it! A modern desk, which is not only for kids, but also parents. A beautiful and good design which will last for years.

If you will ask me what I dream about, I will tell you that I wish that Rafa-kids will grow into such a great company like flexa. I do not mean I would like to grow big, but I wish we could be a lifestyle brand which develops complete, children's interiors. I really like their high quality furniture which last for generations. Having small stores around globe, would be just perfect for me too ;-) Is this too much to ask for?
Flexa was founded in 1972 mainly focusing on bed systems, which are adoptable into children's needs. Last year, they got a red dot design award  for their children's chair- and I'm not surprise- it is another design classic from Denmark, which will be in many , not only scandinavian houses. Even though they started  40 year ago, they look so modern and fresh!

This will be probably the last post about my scandinavian trip. I couldn't leave Denmark without a nice bunch of magazines. Of course I can't read a word, but …the RUM magazine is one of my very favorite at the moment so I just had to have it! I really like their style, which is very minimal and sophisticated, but also their graphics and layout are inspiring. After getting through it, I always want to change my blog .The other favorite of mine will be Bolig, Bo Bedre and Family Living. The last one is showing children rooms and real life! Which is not that common in the other magazines. I will show you few of the images, products which I find inspiring and interesting. I hope you like it.

trapholt and børge mogensen

Kolding Trapholt Museum

Kolding Trapholt Museum

A week ago we were in Kolding, visiting this beautiful Trapholt Museum. Lucky we, because there was an exhibition of Børge Mogensen's furniture. I like his work a lot, among other Danish classic designers, who I admire and wish our Rafa-kids furniture would have the same quality and timeless look.   The museum is surrounded with nature and like you see on the pictures, my boys grabed toys at the restaurant and went to play …Don't miss  ( a bit expensive ) but very delicious lunch out there! I definitely recomend the place and warning to stay away from the museum store, for the ones who are design freaks ;- ) On the pictures , are also Børge Mogensens house, which I found online. In the museum itself you can find a summer house of Arne Jacobsen.

danish summer house

I'm crazy about the Danish summer houses. They are often black from outside, like the house we rented with friends. The houses are also integrated so well in the coastal landscape. It is mostly a bit hilly, so the architecture is hidden in the dunes, which looks so well and doesn't harm the nature. I haven't seen any high buildings or big hotels ;-) which is so common at the seaside of Spain or Italy. We did go to  Legoland with kids, who of course would like to stay there forever…so the nature is fine for a while, but they need some fun too ;-) I'm a city girl and such a calm holiday was definitely well needed.

We chose to spend this holiday time close to the nature, and stay away from cities and tourist attractions.  We went to Sweden's coast and Denmark (close to BlĂĄvand)
I like the raw and calm landscape in time of the year so much.
I just wish it would be a bit warmer and not so windy but it has it's charm….
especially when you get back to a warm house afterwords ;-)
