Accessories for children room from Our Children's Gorilla

Have you seen one of this products in some Scandinavian children rooms? I did and I liked a lot the modern and fun design!  Our Childrens Gorilla is a Swedish company which makes very exciting things for children since 2002. If you’re looking for a playhouse that totally faces off its traditionally styled playhouse then the Scull Cave - is for you! Its super practical, because when the playtime is over, simply roll it up and store it in a drawer. The small playhouse is an architectural miniature of the original beach house first designed by architect Andrew Geller in post war America.  And what about Facestape?  It is a tape full of black face features which can be used to make funny faces. The different motifs can be put together in all kinds of different ways. The  Apenhanger is for me a design classic . Our Childrens Gorilla is definitely: Great ideas and a lot of fun for kids!

Design it yourself at Museum Moti

"…The exhibition Design It Yourself invites everybody to make their own design. Design It Yourself is a combination of magazine design, stop motion film, animations and T-shirt design. In the exhibition, both children and adults are challenged to set to work as designers. " ;-) thats what we did! Have fun and play with graphics and our kids. The exhibition was made by Trapped in Suburbia an design studio of Cuby Gerards and Karin Langeveld.

Pop up generation at Museum Moti

The Pop-Up Generation - Design Between Dimensions is a fantastic exhibition preparted by Lidewij Edelkoort. Because it is the last week when it is shown at the MOTI Museum of the Image in Breda I though we had to go! So we did it yesterday on the 2nd Easter day - and actaully it was a great idea for both kids and parents in the grey rainy dutch day. The museum itself has a great modern look which I really like. It mainly shows an overview of 100 years of Dutch Graphic Design. The Pop-Up Generation exhibition presents designers and artists who, in collaboration with industry from the province of Brabant, are doing research into new ways of working and techniques. My son really likes the work of Camille Scherrer - Le Monde des Montagnes , it was pretty difficult to get him out from the place where he could play with it ;-) and I really enjoyed the work of other artists like: Anna Garforth, Eric Ku and Eley Kishimoto. 

Milano Design Week 2012 - Art and Design for Kids

From 17 till 22 of April MILAN FUORI SALONE 2012 / Milano Design Week is taking place again. I wish I could go to see it! For the second time kids design is getting a spacial room!  It is called KidsroomZOOM. There is a place for known children furniture like : kalon, oeuf, kidsonroof  and a new, fresh design to discover. Two talented sisters Maja and Mejra Mujicic will present their littlehorseandbabybeuys company where they are trying to explore boundaries between functionality and art. Sicilian artist Arcangelo Favata will present his raw and interesting objects! and much more ! here is a list of exhibited art and design on KidsroomZOOM 2 Milano 2012.

Happy Easter

It is busy over here, not only because of Easter. We have plan to open our Rafa-kids site in one week time…so its still a lot of preparation to make, but I can't wait to start it!

Easter Polish Egg Decoration - Pisanki

When the time is coming for the Easter Egg decoration…I stop with my simple modern taste…and I go traditional ;- ) I adore the Polish tradition of decorating eggs, which has been there for ages. It varies per region including different techniques, colors and motifs. The one which we used to do home is called drapanki, known in Śląsk (Silesia) as kroszonki.  These are created by first dying the egg to a dark solid color, black, navy-blue, violet or deep red (using natural ingredients) and then the design is etched on the egg with a sharp pointed instrument. Care must be taken not to break the shell! I remember making pisanki as a kid at the kitchen table round Easter. So thats what I was doing yesterday… first boiled the eggs in water together with onion skins, ( the color gets stronger the longer the eggs stay in the mixture) and then put some simple patterns on it with little help of my older son… That's actually the faster way to color egg but there are plenty of other natural methods to give them beautiful colors (using red cabbage, beetroot skin or nutshell) - there is no end for ideas! ;-)
