dream kitchen

I dream of an open kitchen with a big table and a lot of space around it….
exactly like the one you see on the pictures. This amazing space belongs to Maamke en Rob, who rebuilt a city farm in Workum, The Netherlands. Their every day life concentrate around this unique space and they just like so much to hang out with friends and family around it. The little details, which make this kitchen/dining room so durable :  concrete floor, black industrial window frames, the mix of different chairs, even the flowers on the table put so carelessly.... Cosy, warm and so natural.
I just wish to be there for a moment, to grab this coffee.  I blame the spring air , you know….

Happy and relax weekend to all of you!

small tour into our house

Today I open the door of our house and I will show you a bit of our space.
We live in Rotterdam, at the north side of the city , in an old building from 1930.  We have moved here 5 years ago. Our apartment is on the ground floor and it used to be a local store with a garage for bicycles at the back. Now we have our garden there! I didn’t know I had ‘green hands’ or that I will be gardening in the middle of the city. The garden is wild, with a lot of bamboo, grasses and plants, which don’t need a lot of care. (that was my plan) Our apartment is more clean and organise  with a monochrome colour palet and here and there some splash of little colour accent.  It’s not a big space, but has a high ceilings, which make the space full of light…You can see on the pictures our little kitchen, dining room, library and a bit of working space. It’s one open space with no doors or walls…and that’s what I like so much about this house….

children room's with plants

I went into my children’s rooms moodboard on Pinterest in search of inspiration for putting plants into kids’ space. There was not even one room I could find with plants! I start wondering, how is that possible?  It’s such a great, living element we could not only watch and decorate with, but we can also learn kids to take care of.  Why they are hardly ever on the pictures ? Do you put plants into kids’ rooms ?

We had such a sunny last weekend in Rotterdam. Inspired by beautiful nature which is just about to wake up, I decided to start a little plant collection with my boys at home. I think it’s a great activity for kids, to observe plants grown. I absolutely love the idea of putting bulbs into transparent container with stones and watching the changes that take place over the time. I will show you more soon!

party hats from Engelpunt

party hats from Engel

Engel punt is one of my favourite Dutch brands if you will ask me about the perfect accessories for a party decoration. I think you probably already know their so popular Honeycomb and Pom Poms. Their slingers are also very nicely made and packed. I just discovered, that they came up with a new, simple product - colourful party hats! They are packed in a small envelope, so you can sent it or just use it for all your guests coming over to a party! The patterns and colours are cheerful - exactly what you might need.
  Happy Friday!

favourite stylist /part 4 Jessica Hanson

Jessica Hanson stylist working for an Australian InsideOut magazine

It’s finally March! I have already spotted first flowers getting out of the ground, so I can officially say, the Spring is on it’s way! I’m definitely more into colours and a fresh bright start…and to be outside, not in front of my monitor. Maybe that’s why I wasn’t here a lot last days.

Jessica Hanson is a stylist working for an Australian InsideOut magazine. I follow her on Instagram, and it’s always so nice to see the sneak picks from every issue of the mag. My favorite are her styling made for kids’ products. I find them very fresh and modern. She always plays with graphic patterns and I really like this part of her style.

It’s a holiday break for my two boys this week. We are spending some quality time together als a family. My days are then mostly dedicated to my kids and I’m in a mood for something funny.

French brand Moustache always surprise me with their innovative ideas. Their Bold chair and the Tiger rug are my favourite. The chair is made up of two tubular parts of metal and to me it doesn’t look like anything I have seen before. Which colour would you choose? Their tiger rug would be a perfect new friend for my little monsters at home!

Moustache was established in the 2009 by Stephane Arriubergé and Massimiliano Iorio
Interesting article about the brand you can find here: two furniture manufacturers two worlds

“ Without the backing of a strong investor, in just two years Moustache has established a sales network that combines online selling with local furniture stores. The experience they gained with Domestic, the company specialising in small everyday objects such as plates and wallpaper, which the two founders have been running for several years now, was a great help. The seven-man team of both companies shares the storerooms and offices. Moreover, the contact to designers had already been established. That said, the fact that the economic crisis forced several manufacturers who produced furniture for Moustache to file for bankruptcy, made the initial years particularly tough.”

Let’s start our Monday with inspiration for a children’s rooms.
I choose to show you, some rooms in a vtwonen style, and if you are not familiar with this name, here is a small introduction.  Vtwonen is a Dutch interior magazine which comes out every month and is run by Carlein Kieboom. Instead of mainly following the trends of their sector, the mag has their own, very strong style, which you will always recognise, going through the pages. Part of their team, are two of my very favourite stylists : Marianne Luning and Cleo Schuerman

Why I like so much the vtwonen’s style and what’s so unique about it ? In few words, I will say creativity to mix old and new elements, vintage pieces with modern design, courage in use of different textures and colours. DIY ideas are very important part of vtwonen’s world. You will see a lot of natural materials, raw, not polish, sober furniture and accessories. Children’s rooms are part of this concept, and that is something I really appreciate.  Vtwonen even have their own junior’s furniture collection.
