working space

working space in black
black desk

I've started new Pinterest board “work space” while ago.
I notice that I like, very minimal and clean desks and space the most. At my home, the house can be a mess, but when I need to do some work, I first clean my desk otherwise I just can’t concentrate. I don’t like to face the wall with my working space, so I have my desk in front of the window. It’s not about looking outside, it’s about the need of feeling open and sit in light. If I will ever have a bigger house or start to work more often in our studio, I would love to have a working space in the middle of the room. What is your perfect working space?  Do you need a lot of storage around you? or you like to keep it clean and minimal like I do ?

room to dream

Rafa-kids A teen bed - at Bodie and Fou styling: Karine Kong photo Francois Kong

I would like to tell you something. I have a crash on washed linen for some time now. When I visited maison-objet in Paris in September, it was just difficult to avoid it, they were all over the place at the textile hall. I used to sleep in cotton for years, but then the calm, dreaming look of washed linen bedding, was all what I would like to think of. I decided to go for it, and create some new collection of bedding for Rafa-kids , since the one we have didn’t changed since the beginning. I’m so much into challenge of trying something new! The orders are made and I’m waiting to get all new wonderful products …so stay with me.

“ .....I would like to think of Tea and Kate as a small emporium selling the best stuff! I have sourced collections from around the world, many of whom manufacture their goods in the traditional way and to their original designs. The products i source are often a little bit eccentric, sometimes indulgent and always charming but mostly inspirational.(....) Tea and Kate will continually strive to bring you new and exciting products some totally new to the market for you our customers to enjoy! ..."

This weekend I’m into kids’ shops on Instagram and today I would like to show you a very personal and cosy place - Tea and Kate based in UK. When I discovered this Instagram feed, I had the feeling that someone just invited me to her home and would like to show me all this beautiful little items she has in her store. Maybe that’s the secret of  this store Instagram success, since she reached 50.000 followers!
Tea and Kate is a very cute, warm and cosy place,  filled with unique designs, and so well curated and shown. Instagram seems to me, such a direct place and being personal looks like natural part of it.

Instagram find - kid's store Big&Belg

kids store Big en Belg in Amsterdam on instagram

Are you on instagram ? I think it’s very strong social media tool at the moment. What’s interesting, that Instagram is not only used for putting personal pictures from your IPhone, but it's also used by companies and stores. I would like to show you one of them today. Big&Belg is a kids' store from Amsterdam, they have two brick and mortar locations, but they are not online! I really like their instagram feed, which gives you a feeling of the store itself, their style and the items they have of course out there. It’s cool, trendy and they let you see new fresh stuff straight away to you phone. They get a new products in store, make a set up and klick! a photo, and it’s out there reaching, some times thousands of people. Great work Big&Belg store

photography Frederic Lucano

photography Frederic Lucano

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday evening and the week is almost gone. It was very busy weekend for our family, since we celebrated birthday of our older son. We had a wonderful party on Sunday with teen boys age 8! We made it outside, the weather was wonderful…and our boy was very happy. I didn’t have much time to blog since then…so today just some treat for the eyes. Beautiful photography from Frederic Lucano. I like his minimal style, but with the touch of French textures and colours, looks so romantic and contemporary at the same time.

storage for kids’ room from AM-PM

storage for kids’ room from AM-PM
stationery for kids desk storage AM-PM

Finding a good storage for a child’s room is not that easy.
In our house the toys of my boys are flying around constantly, and sometimes I really don’t know what I can do more about it.  The industrial trend which you can see here and there in kids’ deco, is acutely something I really like. The French company AM-PM is absolutely fantastic in kids’ room accessories for me. All the boxes and storage elements which you can play with, are made out of metal (probably not suitable for smaller kids). This new collection is really well done and what a great choice of colours, don’t you think ?

Bibelotte - travel collection

Bibelotte travel collection
bedding from Bibelotte travel collection

Bibelotte is a little Dutch brand, started by Jacoline de Meent in 2006. At the beginning it was just a shop which out grown into a brand with unique, hand made home accessories. Since they use a lot of different fabric with patterns, mostly very cheerful, it was not really my kind of thing .

But! There is a change!  The new  “ travel collection ” is very elegant and beautifully styled with natural colours of plywood. Build up on a basis of light blue, petrol blue linen with sand and ocher accents.  Bibelotte is know for her very nice details, bedding which are made with zips in contrasting colours and use of a very good quality textile. Wall stickers are part of the new collection. Definitely “do not enter” is my favourite.

Do you know Djeco toys, craft kits, lamps, stacking blocks, kitchens and puzzles already?
Djeco is a French toy manufacturer from Paris specialising mainly in toys for young children. The company was founded in 1954 by the mother of the current owner, Frederick Michel Dales.  He took over the company in 1990 and made it a market leader. What I like about the company, is that they are working with designers/illustrators and some of their products are very graphic and playful.

What is new in Djeco ?
Few days ago I have discovered a new website LITTLE BIG ROOM dedicated to children’s room.  They are taking us into a ‘village’ with many houses and then we can ‘look’ inside and see differently styled rooms. All of them are decorated with products from Djeco collection, and are available by retailers. I found it a very interesting concept and maybe the style of the rooms in not exactly my taste, but I’m really impressed by the work they did.
