Peter’s Table & Chair by Hans J. Wegner

Carl Hansen Children’s Table and Chair by Hans J. Wegner

A timeless classic, this Carl Hansen Children’s Table and Chair by Hans J. Wegner
has been in production since 1944. This is my very favorite set for small kids. Looks so great, which is down to both style and simplicity of design. Sturdy and safe, it's made from pieces of wood that can be assembled and disassembled again and again - no tools are necessary. Peter's Chair was designed by Wegner as a present for the baby son of Wegner's friend and colleague Børge Mogense.

I found it available in UK here : thelollipopshoppe    some other posibility : archiexpo

Bertoia chair

Bertoia chair - modern design classic which I like so much, but which has some interesting story behind it! Harry Bertoia was an Italian-born artist, had a big passion for jewelry and was also working with Charles and Ray Eames. ( designing and creating wedding rings for them!) After he left their studio, he started his own, and designed five wire pieces that became known as the Bertoia Collection for Knoll. Unfortunately, this design had already been patented by Herman Miller for their Eames wire side chair. Herman Miller successfully sued Knoll, so subsequent generations of the Bertoia chair were made with a single thick wire on the edge of the chair.  The Diamond Chair  ( the more sculpture one and open) was the big success after that…and both of them accully are loved all over the world till now !

Harry Bertoia himself said of his work:
"If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture.
Space passes right through them."

Design from Sweden - String system

The good classic design is never getting out of fashion, isn't it?
Nisse Strinning (1917-2006) designed the String system in 1949. Simple metal structure to which we can attach all sorts of shelves of various widths. The shelves are easy to install and can be moved from place to place and extend depending on your needs. You can buy them in a flat box and therefore the transport is not expensive ( IKEA introduced a flat-pack furniture a bit later 1956) This very simple system has become wildly popular in Sweden, where Nisse comes from…and accully String system is doing really well in the modern design world. I'm really not surprise about that! ;-)

Juno bed designed by Viggo Einfeldt

 model 1

model 2

I wanted to make a post about beautiful children bed which I see in many Danish homes. I thought that this bed comes from Sebra but searching on the web I discovered that Kili bed is not the only one!  there's also Noahbeds and Alt-til-baby and all of them look the same. This let me into discovery that all of this beds are accully copies of a design from 40's ! The original Juno bed was created by architect Viggo Einfeldt. His granddaughter made a site where we can read the history of the original bed which is no more in production since late 50's.  The idea of the Juno was a pull-out bed that would follow the child from the first week to the early teenage years, where the (fully extended and without side bars) could act as a sofa in a teen's room. His motto was a "BED THAT GROWS WITH THE CHILD" . Juno came in two versions, Juno 1 and Juno 2 - the first probably unknown to most. There are 3 different lengths of the bed , and you can extend it, according to the child's growth. The design has a timeless beauty and functionality which makes it still a very popular bed. I guess this popularity made so many companies to profit from producing colorful copies. It is just a shame there are no credits given to the designer.

Bunk bed - Stapelbed - part 1

Bunk bed is the best space saver in a child's room. It's bringing fun and create second level in the room - to play, to hide, to climb. Children love it! ;-) My husband use to say " "Every child wants to have one". His father made one for him and his older brother. We did it for our sons too. Now we have Rafa-kids bunk bed for you.

There is plenty of great examples, so I would like to start a new series here to show you nice ideas for children bunk beds. First one will be the vintage bunk bed from Luigi Colani which I really love. He designed his "Rappelkiste" all in one desk/closet/loft bed in 1975 . Compact design which is taking not so much space. Beautiful and functional. I would really like to see this great bed in production again - and the color! Fantastic - isn't it? The second one is a modern and really simple white bunk bed from Alex bunk system. For me it has sort of basic shape but has the same concept - bed + closet and place for a desk. Next to it I'm showing you two bunk beds which are next to each other  - this is a great idea to do for two kids in one room. The third one is the modern F bunk bed from Rafa-kids. It has also bed lifted from the ground to free the space under it for any child's activity. It has modern and one of a kind look! ;-) The desk, bookshelf and maybe closet are on the way! I will keep you posted.

Arne Jacobsens ABC for kids

Since a long time I have the Arne Jacobsens porcelain caps with letters on my wish list. I like them so much! What a nice surplice to see a new ABC series for kids, made out of melamine. The cup and plate with the beautiful letters from 1937. The typography is originally drawn by Arne Jacobsen for Aarhus City Hall in Denmark. Yes, I want them all ;-) via: Design Letters
