Monday inspiration: built-in beds in children’s rooms

I’m trying to get back to you regularly on Mondays with inspiration for children’s rooms.

Today, I would like to convince you that the built-in furniture is interesting not only for small spaces. I will even suggest to try to build it in a big room, especially beds or cupboards, to make a cosy corner for a child.  What do you think about a little niche, like the one on the first picture? What we need to accept, is the fact, that it will be difficult to change it when the child will grow and there is no chance to move it around when we would like to try something new… A bigger size bed, like 200cm long can by used for many years and also more simple design would be easier to use longer. Of course it's a smart way to use space, but also a great challenge to all off you who like to do things by hand.

Creative children’s spaces

Personal bedroom with handmade elements from book Creative children’s spaces

Few days ago I was so lucky to find in my post box this wonderful book ‘ Creative Children’s Spaces’ by Ashlyn Gibson. As you can imagine going through all the pages made me very exited!

Most of the houses the stylist and author of the book Ashlyn Gibson selected and visited with photographer Ben Robertson are not know in the online word.  This makes the content of this book very fresh and unique.  You can also be sure, that the houses are not changed by the stylist, who is trying to show us specific image or product. They take us like a little spy, to watch the real homes and their families.  Dynamic, personal and creative environments which are beautifully captured by photographer Ben Robertson . I had hard time to select pictures to show you.

Each page is just full of ideas and little details, which you would like to watch, and watch again.  The author Ashlyn discusses the key elements of successful and inspiring children’s spaces: colour, wall décor, storage, display, dens and hideaways, creative spaces plus homework zones, and cozy bedrooms. We are very touched to also see our Rafa-kids R toddler bed in one of the houses!

children's room in vtwonen magazine

vtwonen is one of my favourite magazines dedicated to home deco. Not only because of their very unique style but also because they often shows kids’ rooms, which are part of the house. It’s really not that common in other deco magazines.

Today I would like to show you a house, which was presented in September issue of vtwonen.  What stands out in my opinion is a harmony of style and products also within the children's room. This French family enjoys many natural light, wooden furniture and accessories made from natural materials. This interior has warmth and Scandinavian look and feel, along with many funny products, rugs and rich fabrics like old linen and lace. Base is played out in robust materials: grey concrete floors and black steel window in huge frames.  Here and there a pastel colouring matches perfectly the vintage and homemade items.

A little bicycle in the middle of a living room, collection of tiny shoes in the corridor, a wall display with all the family’s photos….small traces of children’s presence at home.  What a pity I hardly ever see it in the magazines and blogging world. Mostly we have blogs dedicated to interior deco or to kids deco separatelly….I don’t really understand why this two interior styles seem to be separated so often. Thesocialitefamily blog, which I like so much, is a wonderful example that this two worlds belong to each other and can create a real , fascinated modern family houses. Constance Gennari takes us into some unique places :

“ The Socialite Family offers a new perspective on home design and the lifestyle of contemporary families. Whether in Paris, London, New York or Milan, these families all share their unique vision on how to harmonise family life and interior design.”

plywood furniture by Rafa-kids

Do you like plywood furniture?
Rafa-kids’ first furniture set F&R which you see on the picture was introduced 3 years ago. We just resized that since then we’ve never made any new pictures of the set in a natural finish! We focused on the new white wash version and then a dark chocolate one. Then it was time for a new K desk.
Last week, we took our boys to the Rafa-kids’ studio and asked them to play around….3 years ago, our younger son Robert  was just starting to walk and now he climbs the bunk bed!

You might have the impresion, that our plywood pieces are left raw…no way! All Rafa-kids’ furniture in natural finish is double lacquered to best protect the surface. Not treated plywood will get dirty pretty fast especially with kids using it ( you can imagine the dirty hands all over it, right ? ) Lacquered plywood, stays beautiful and you can just easily clean it with a wet cloth. During the 3 years we’ve improved the assembly and packaging of all our beds, which we are very proud off. High quality details, perfectly shaped edges, invisible connectors - are all the details that make our furniture that more special. We look at them and we still like them a lot and our kids do too!
…but there is also something new coming to our collection, so please stay with us!

Shelf with treasuries in children’s rooms

Shelfs in children’s rooms

It’s Monday again, so let’s talk more about children’s room deco.
Today I would like to show you little shelfs in children’s rooms where you can put all the treasures and favourite little objects. My boys love to collect things and they would like to keep them as close as possible. I think their entire room could be made out of open shelfs! Well, one or two is really enough, to expose their favourite toys and books, the rest of belongings should be hidden but easy to reach for play.  Treasuries shelf, can be made from few simple wooden planks or you can buy ready made. My favourite ones are classic string shelf system. I see it very often in children’s rooms since it have a very neutral, simple look.
